My favorite dip/spread these days...

I'm addicted to this stuff-

1/2 C. pitted dates
1/2 C. pitted kalamata olives
2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1 or 2 cloves garlic
2 Tbsp. chopped red onion
a few basil leaves
a little flat leafed italian parsley
2-3 Tbsp. olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
pinches of sumac and red pepper flakes
a little water, as needed

Mix this in a food processor until a tasty puree with a bit of texture is created. Adjust seasonings to taste. Drizzle with a bit more olive oil and balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with a bit of sumac powder and chili flakes.
It's also good with pecans or walnuts added.
Great with crudites, crackers or pita bread (or anything).
